DLSZ, SPU Surigao hop on iPad trend

With tablets becoming an established educational tool, a tech distributor has reported that two private schools — De La Salle Santiago Zobel School (DLSZ) and Saint Paul University Surigao campus (SPU) – have acquired iPad units for the use of their students.

Power Mac Center (PMC), the country’s largest chain of Apple Resellers, said DLSZ received their order of 500 units of iPad 2 from the PMC education team led by education sales manager Luci Nuñez.

According to DLSZ President Br. Dennis Magbanua, Grade 4 and freshmen high school students will be the first batches to experience the full integration of technology in the curriculum, as well as subsequent changes in the classroom learning experience.

One immediate and visible change of iPad 2’s use in the school will be the use of online textbooks in lieu of traditional textbooks.

Also present to help in the iPad 2 distribution and set up at the DLSZ were the retail team from PMC’s Podworx store in SM Southmall led by associate area manager for south Elgyn Bernas.

Interestingly, DLSZ’s sister school De LaSalle Greenhills are using a different brand of tablet – the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Meanwhile, last June 9, representatives from PMC’s education, training and service center teams also flew to Surigao City to deliver 250 units of iPad 2 and to conduct teacher training for the use of the Apple tablet in SPU Surigao.

SPU Surigao is the first school in Mindanao to bring Apple technology to the classroom.

SPU and DLSZ are the first two schools to integrate technology through iPad 2 in their curriculum.

“We now live in the digital age where technology plays an important role in every aspect of our lives, especially in learning. To be able to compete in this information communications and technology-centric environment, we have to equip our schools with the capability to prepare students for the global digital economy,” said PMC marketing director Joey Alvarez.
